Unlocking Your Potential Through Storytelling with Erik Seversen
Mar 10, 2025
What if sharing your story could change your life—and the lives of thousands of others?
For today’s guest, Erik Seversen, storytelling has been a game-changer. He’s not just an adventurer who has hitchhiked across continents, lived with remote tribes, and climbed some of the world’s highest mountains—he’s also a TEDx speaker, bestselling author of 18 books, and the founder of the Self Publishing Center.
Erik has built a career around mindset, performance, and personal growth, helping over 400 people turn their stories into bestselling books. And I know firsthand how powerful that can be—because of Erik, I am now a published author!
In this episode of Sober Fit Life, we dive into:
The Power of Sharing Your Story
Erik’s first book, Ordinary to Extraordinary, wasn’t just a personal milestone—it launched him into a career-changing journey. What started as a passion project turned into a book that helped him land speaking gigs, inspire thousands, and ultimately, create a thriving business.
His biggest takeaway? Your story has the power to impact others. Even if you don’t think your experiences are “extraordinary,” there’s someone out there who needs to hear them.
How an Alcohol-Free Lifestyle Fueled Erik’s Success
Erik shares how removing alcohol unlocked his full potential, allowing him to:
✅ Improve his relationships—especially with his wife
✅ Grow his business exponentially—scaling from an idea to full-time entrepreneurship
✅ Stay fully present—in both his personal and professional life
Like many, Erik believed that drinking was just a normal part of business and socializing. But after making the decision to remove alcohol, he realized how much it had been holding him back. More energy, sharper focus, and a clearer vision all contributed to his ability to take his career to the next level.
The Biggest Myths About Quitting Alcohol
A lot of people hesitate to change their relationship with alcohol because of common misconceptions, like:
🚫 “You have to quit forever.” – Nope! Erik never told himself he was quitting for life, just that he was taking a break. Eight years later, he’s still alcohol-free.
🚫 “You can’t socialize without drinking.” – Erik still goes to work events, dinners, and parties—he just orders soda water with lime instead.
🚫 “Moderation doesn’t affect you.” – Even “moderate” drinking was enough to make Erik feel sluggish, unmotivated, and stuck in his routine.
So, You Want to Write a Book? Here’s Where to Start
If you’ve ever dreamed of writing a book, Erik’s advice is simple: Just start.
Too many people hold themselves back because they think their writing has to be perfect from the beginning. Erik suggests:
✍️ Start with an outline—then focus on one small section at a time.
✍️ Stop editing yourself—get the words down first, polish later.
✍️ Find an accountability partner—someone to check in and keep you on track.
If you’ve been thinking about writing your own story, let this be your sign to get started. 🚀
